MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES IN THE EFL CLASS

Abstract

 

The aim of this study is to present the pedagogical benefits to English teachers of exploiting students’ multiple intelligences in their classes. The shift in EFL methodology, embraced by Romanian practitioners as well, from traditional language teaching to a communicative approach, focused on the development of all foreign language skills, has improved a lot students’ motivation in learning, as well as appropriate communicative behaviours. However, teachers of English still are in constant search for the best didactic methods, especially as it can often be difficult to find an approach that would be suitable for all the pupils within one classroom because at common primary and secondary schools there are classes consisting of pupils with mixed abilities. The present work deals with some aspects that teachers should take into consideration during their lessons. It focuses on multiple intelligences and learning styles, being the result of research among secondary school pupils and it tries to suggest some appropriate strategies and activities that could be used for developing the individual kinds of intelligences and learning styles.
