ROMA SOCIAL INCLUSION THROUGH HIGHER EDUCATION

Abstract

 

This article presents a synopsis of the situation of Roma social inclusion achieved through education policy mechanisms. Affirmative action which is common for minorities in democratic countries is described and analysed for Roma in Romania which, despite some failures in education in general, have made significant progress in increasing the level of secondary education - and tertiary in particular. The findings reveal some opportunities created for Roma people through affirmative action in higher education in Romania.
